February 2025 Board Meeting Summary
The WSAA Board held its most recent meeting on Thursday 13th February 2025 in Melbourne. Below is a summary of the meeting from President Gilbert Da Silva:
The meeting commenced with the welcome of a new director, Jules Di Bartolomeo and the confirmation of the President and Vice-President roles, with Gilbert Da Silva continuing as President until October 2025 and Stephen Eggleton as Vice President.
With the support of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (AICD) Not-for-profit Governance Principles, a list of governance recommendations that the Board will implement over the next 12 months were approved. As a start, these included a new Board Charter and Director Code of Conduct which were approved during the meeting.
Membership remains steady at 227, however our goal is to now increase membership with a target to reach 315 by year-end. To support this goal, a recruitment plan presented to Board was endorsed. This plan includes a range of activities and includes the support of existing members to encourage membership to their industry customers, and we will be in contact soon with more details.
The Board briefly reviewed our energy efficiency strategy progress, including our dollar cost/CO2 savings modelling data which is expected this week. We also noted recent meetings held with key stakeholders such as the Energy Efficiency Council, RMIT University, ClimateWorks, social housing government departments and more.
Brett Greene of GreeneFox Advertising who has been our event organiser for the past four SuperExpos announced his semi-retirement recently and so we are currently tendering for his replacement, with a decision expected by the end of February.
The Board reviewed the financial and operational reports, as well as progress against the strategic plan, with our next action items to begin are (1) launching an industry awards program, (2) supporting Global Shading Day, (3) providing HR/OH&S support and resources, (4) convening an external panel of partners to provide discounted services to our members and (5) providing industry technical information.
The Board welcomed Steve Quirk from our training partner Frontline who provided an update of the Cert III, which included a recent training summit with the Tasmania industry in Hobert as well progress on offering short courses.
Our next meeting is scheduled for Thursday 15th May 2025 in Sydney followed by the members meeting on Friday 16th May (details to be advised).
