Presentation 1: Project Case Study – Solving Complexity in Residential Design
Peter Skinner of Shade Factor & Theo Tsalacopoulos of Unique Screens
This presentation takes a look at a large scale residential project which involved the reinvention of some standard products, the development of some new ones and some complex detailing to resolve design and construction issues. The project raised many issues that we deal with commonly in our industry including architects demands for innovation and how to resolve technical issues that are difficult to visualise. We share our process from design and tendering through to implementation and how we collaborated across the project team.
About Peter & Theo:
Peter Skinner is the director of Shade Factor; A sunshading contractor with a focus on delivering projects through a drawing and engineering process. Since 1999 Shade Factor has been involved in many challenging and interesting projects around Australia.
Theo Tsalacopoulos is a director of Unique Screens; A manufacturer of a range of technical and interior furnishing products with a long family involvement in the industry and a wealth of knowledge. Theo produced many of the products for this project.
Presentation 2: Psychological Safety and Risk Management
Steph Dann, Psychological Safety Specialist of Business Solutions Hub
New workplace psychosocial hazard regulations come into effect in Victoria from 1 December 2025, which require employers to identify and manage mental health hazards with the same level of diligence as physical risks. The new regulations will focus on risk management and create specific obligations for Victorian employers to identify and control psychosocial hazards in their workplaces. This presentation will cover psychological safety, list psychological hazards, employer responsibilities, consequences of not managing hazards adequately in the workplace and provide guidance on where employers can start.
